Unit 1, Day 2

Types of variation come in two forms:

Direct Variation:
  • Y varies directly with x (e.g. as x increases y increases, or as x decreases y decreases)
  • Direct variation will always cause a line to go through the origin
  • Represented in the equation y= kx or k = y/x, where k is the constant of variation

Inverse Variation:
  • As one variable changes in one way, the other changes in the opposite (e.g. as x increases y then decreases, or if x decreases y then increases)
  • Represented by the equation xy = k (k is constant variation)

  1. Alec this is a very nice summary of the verbal definitions, equations, and graphs. It's also well-organized and easy to read.

An example for each would be helpful.
